hmm you can but it is very hard to do so and has never been done bellow 3rd i think, so if you can do it then although your not the best throughout the season you definitely are then.

Dewsbury won the championship play off final in 1973 after finishing in 8th position, so it has been done below 3rd, although obviously before the super league era.

Of course it is not impossible but being realistic and looking at the history of super league, it may happen every blue moon. A team finishes 6th (or 8th now) for a reason.
