Do you think that you have the best backline in SL?

No not really, however, the rumour mill suggest that McDonald is heading to Leeds, and we have Ricky Leutele, Tom Briscoe, Robbie Mulhern, Jack Hughes, Matt Davis, Gareth O'Brien, and Scott Taylor to come in.

That's what I was laughing at our resident clown saying you had the best backline in SL.

Against York you had 10 overseas players, so you need to lose 3 plus one more for Leutele, plus any others in you squad to get down to 7.

I think you will have a decent 17 based on those signings, but once injuries hit you will be in trouble.

Really hope you sign Taylor

A lot of RL people seem to think academies are all about talent production. They are also about talent capture. There’s an even longer version of this post in my head but to spare you that… once Wigan, Saints and even Warrington have skimmed off the best mid-teens in the Northwest, asking Leigh and/or Salford to invest in full academy set-ups for the sake of the odd youngster who may have slipped through the net offers the clubs a rubbish return on investment. They’re better taking other approaches… I’m not even sure it is that much of a shame for the net-slipper, as he’d be playing alongside young team mates who mostly genuinely never belonged in the net. That many academies in that small an area will offer diminishing returns, with the very worst of the harvest being gathered by Leigh and Salford… and for a similar price.

Clubs, like people, will respond to incentives when they understand them. If we want to change their behaviour, we can either try to ensure they misunderstand their incentives or change the incentives themselves.

The Rovers 17 that beat Hull to secure SL survival in 2007 contained 12 overseas players and no club-trained players. I take a kind of pride in that because it was a rational and effective approach at the time. RL does not reward altruism with anything other than patronising kind words.

Every choice is a sacrifice, and people might say Leigh’s approach will make it hard for them to survive and consolidate in SL. But to be in a position to worry about that, they have to get promoted first. The most important part of any long-term strategy is a good short-term plan.

'Thus I am tormented by my curiosity and humbled by my ignorance.' from History of an Old Bramin, The New York Mirror (A Weekly Journal Devoted to Literature and the Fine Arts), February 16th 1833.

We will definitely need decent squad players to cover for any injuries/suspensions, that's for sure. I'm sure Lammy & Chezzy are working very hard on this.

Our Non Fed quota would probably look like this.
Ferguson, Leutele, Lam, Ipape, Amone, Asiata. So that leaves us one spare, unless we retain either Inu or Ioane :thumb: .

Ipape impressed me in the final against Featherstone.

Like I've already said, things need to change, hence IMG being brought in.

It was your reference to “ the rotten RFL” that fought my eye. It is not only you that seems to have a persecution complex.

Surprised you hung on to Ferguson but looking forward to watching him in SL.

Thanks MB :thumb:

I really do hope we get promoted, and most of all, I really hope we can compete, do well, and stay in SL.

What are you going on about? It was used in a figure of speech.
