Wow. I actually agree with Bumpy. Tom's our number 1 winger and will stay so until the end of the season. I don't doubt for one minute that he will do his best in every game.

Tom is currently our no.1 strike winger and by a fair distance, yes Naughton has done well & yes hopefully we will have Lancaster vying for a place too. But to leave TL out because he's leaving at the end of the season is just crazy talk, the same crazy talk as it was with Briscoe, with Manu, pretty much any player nailed on in the 17 that decided to leave.
What is it with people, are players not allowed to leave somehow, to want to try something new, try to better themselves, go somewhere different, maybe even win something (something we've rarely looked like doing in 10 years). All this gash about oh his head will be elsewhere, he won't perform etc. That might be the case but until he shows he's out of form, shows little interest/effort he plays, end of story.
There's always a few that turn on players as soon as there's a hint of them leaving to sign elesewhere, more so when the ink dries, yet are so called 'fans' slapping down others whom say anything negative about the club yet lo and behold come on here damning a player for having the temerity to leave...
I hope Tom scores plenty more this season, improves his defence a smidge and helps us climb further up the table, if he helps us beat Leeds in the cup then who knows what might happen. When he leaves we should say thanks for all your efforts and good luck with your career.
Great post, although, I'm not sure that many people have asked for him to be dropped on the basis of him leaving.
I expect Naughton to put some serious pressure on him for the rest of the season.

not many but it's the same few whom say it every time a player decides to leave and are really negative about that player all of a sudden but are quite happy to get on the back of other posters whom make valid comments about the club that they don't happen to agree with.

By his own admission he had a mare at magic weekend and had put in a similar performance at Warrington. If that was because his mind was elsewhere then he deserved dropping which he was for the cup game. Much better last week so we shall see. Don't agree that just because players are leaving they should be dropped but by the same token it sometimes affects them mentally and it is right to drop them. Besides wasn't Pryce pretty much dropped from Catalans team last season as soon as we announced his signing.

I agree with every word of that. FFS Lineham is the second top try scorer in Super League. If his head's gone he hides it well. By all means drop him if he's out of form but to call for him to be dropped now because just he's leaving is ridiculous. Do those calling for him to be dropped think Paea and Rankin be dropped too? If not, why not?

Do you think they were right to drop him?

Whilst a player is still contracted to us, we should treat them fairly and play our best available team. If his form drops off, Naughton's in.
His contract clearly meant knack all to him, so why should we?
FWIW I think we need naughton playing. He has the attitude similar to Rankin that riles the opposition. High fiving, slapping people on the back, seemingly loves playing rugby for hull. If that means Lineham makes way then so be it.
