I disagreed with the view that some seem to have that the atmosphere at the KC is worse than that of the Boulevard. The basis of this is that the mjority who support this view cannot actually back it up as most are still upset we left the Boulevard and think its the be all and end all.
As has been pointed out, in its pomp (1979 - 1985) the Boulevard was an intimidating venue for visiting teams due to the noise generated by the vast majority of the ground, especially the 3d.
After the Bradfrod fire, (which saw the 3d capacity more than halved) attendances were on teh slide and the atmosphere was far less impressive, the odd game the exception.
After Hillsborough, the decision came to knock down 2/3 of the 3d for seats. basically the intimidating atmosphere was lost from that point forward, give or take the odd big game.
Someone mentioned a try scored by Chico Jackson against Batley in 1996, even referring to a video created a great atmosphere. That arguement is somewhat compromised as it was against a different team on a different season. Even the quote of "Tomlinson threw the pass" is somewhat odd as
Glen Tomlinson played for Batley AFTER he has finished with us in 1998. So in some eyes the scoring of a try is the atmosphere
Quoting names like Edwards, Davies etc. They are too professional to come out in the public and say the reason they disliked playing at The Boulevard was the venomus hate ans spittal which went there way as they were taking the field
The FACT remains, that in the last 6-7 years of the Boulevard (attedances were rubbish with the execption of a handful of games), the atmosphere was poor. If you were one of the fortunately few in the 3d standing it might cloud your judgement, but beleive me when I say, the vast majority of the ground hardly knew you had started any singing.
Its a little like the myth the rovers fans would like everyone to beleive that craven park is "rocking". Having has the mis-fortune to go there 3 times in the last 2 season, you can hardly hear them in the Zeebrugge end.
Its not having a go at our past, its just being realistic about, what ended up being an appauling sports stadium.
Although there is plenty of this I interpret to be nonsense, I can only really be bothered to point out that Tomlinson played for Batley well before he played for us, or Bradford. He certainly played for Batley against us at the Boulevard, I can only assume you stayed at home for those fixtures.
