Can't remember the exact circumstances or which player it was but they did become exempt and signed for a club that had a full overseas quota and this has been in the super league era.
Was it they'd signed for the crusaders they went bust before he got to play for them but as he had a SL contract the rfl made him exempt.
Sure I've not made this up or even if it would apply to Carney but still can't see him being at Hull.

The thing with Crusaders was a rare incident, could be wrong but I think players signed from them for 2012 were exempt from quota for that year?, we signed Tony Martin.
