I think you are all mean, shame on you all
This is someones pet you are all talking about, the op may have children who are asking about their cat everday and are upset he hasn't come home.
I would put an ad in the Daily Mail, put up missing posters around Greatfield shops and bus shelters etc, phone all the vets in the area in case someone has taken him there and call all the rescue centres. When I worked at a vets we had a lost/found book that we would register animals so vets do keep a record of phone calls.
Good luck in finding your boy. I sympathise having had a pet go missing, I know how you are feeling.
