True, but more and more games will go to the wire. After Thorman's sad attempts last week and Horney kicking wide in a perfect position this has to be an area we can rely on if necessary.

Cas's first attempt from the half way line looked more likely to go over than our last 3 goes all of which have in front of the sticks.

This cost us tonight - a draw would've made us top if Horne had scored - and will cost us again.

So, yes, I agree with legohead.

Why did drop goals cost us tonight and Tickles missed kicks not, or Berrigans poor decision, or Yeaman not passing etc etc.

Its just one of those games to learn from and move on.

Sherwins first effort missed by fully 5 yards, But he was pressured and was from 50 metres out, His second the ball to him was poor, Picked it up off his laces and just got it away to land it, If you get within 20 yards of the posts and have a reasonably easy chance of getting the ball away, You shouldnt be missing, Simple as

And we shouldnt have made the errors all of the game to need 1 point to beat you. Tickle shouldnt have missed the 3 kicks etc. the Drop goal conversation should be irrelevant.

Because drop-goals are a last gasp measure at the end of a game which is level - therefore a concerted strategy should be in place.

I could accept it if the majority of our attempts went over, or came close, but very few go anywhere near.

You wouldn't expect us not to practice tackling, plays, moves or Tickle his goal kicks, so surely we should be tight in this area that wins, loses or draws games in the final minutes.

(Not blaming Horney, btw, but just feel this an element of our game that is neglected in coaching)

How do you know we dont practice it?

From memory i seem to think that R Horne has a pretty good success rate normally.

tickle was practicing his goal kicks pre game and still missed 3 crucial kicks, how are drop goals any different?

Tickle gets most of his goals - tonight was an anomaly - so as we all know this is given great emphasis and practice, rightly so. But I think we are generally pants at DGs. Since Cooke left, and with Horne out most of last season, we have seen very few.

So I conclude it's something that is not focussed on - I know coaches allegedly hate drops - so I'm guessing it doesn't get much practice.

And it should, IMO.

Correct. We've been pretty useless at this over the last few years. Apart from Cooke at Saints.
