I think if it was done well it could be a good competition.
Say on Saturday have NRL 1st v SL 2nd. Then on Sunday SL 1st v NRL 2nd. With a Grand Final the following Saturday.
I don't think there is room in the busy fixture schedule to have a more than one game tournament, so they'll have to stick with GF winner vs GF winner.
However, I don't see the harm in an Intercontinental Cup as another trophy for the CC winners and minor premiers of the NRL.
So we could have had St Helens vs Melbourne as well this weekend.
Have the losing finalists of the CC play the minor premiers in a warm-up game the week before ala Quins (so we'd get to play Storm) and the losing GFists to play a warm-up game against the NRLGF winners (if that team is already involved, then the next team along in the POs, so Wigan).
That's 4 SL clubs that get to play against 4 NRL sides. The more exposure our teams can get against these sides the better our standards may get.

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11
