This for me. We were given absolutely no chance in 2005 as it was a truly great Saints side we were playing. I didn't fully relax until the 75th minute and even then I watched through my fingers as I was just waiting for the well known Saints fightback to happen.
Whilst Saturday was a fantastic performance, we are a better side than 2005 and Leeds are certainly not the side that Saints were that day. The win wasn't expected for me, just hoped for, but it was no shock to see us perform like that as I've been saying for months that an 80 minute performance like that was coming and heaven help whoever it was against. How sweet that it was Leeds in the Semi!
For me 2005 is without doubt the best performance in context of the magnitude of the task ahead when comparing the 2 teams. St's at the time were one of if not the best team in the comp at that point in time and looking through the team there is top quality pretty much right through it. Hull on the other hand with the exception of a few were hard working do what it says on the tin players. On the day Hull really wanted it and the players really became one and it was very special to see it. It was no fluke win as those players in the team destroyed St's that day in every aspect. I remember seeing the likes of Albert and Lyons and the looks of complete disbelief on their faces.
The Hull team of today whilst sharing the team ethic of the 2005 team the class throughout the 2017 team v 2005's is hugely different.
