Some big derby attendances in the late 70s/early 80s when Hull and Rovers dominated. Over 20,000 at The Boulevard in 1983 for a league game and a few 18,000+ including the Floodlit Trophy final. Even some 15,000+ attendances for Craven Park derbies at that time. Two attendances of over 25,000 in three months at Boothferry Park for Yorkshire Cup and John Player Trophy finals.

In general, though, league attendances were very modest in the 80s. In 1983-84 for example we were the only club to average in five figures (10,679). Leeds averaged 6,542; Wigan 7,479; Saints 4,656; Rovers 6,966.

I think you'd see similar scenes at Wembley (in the lower tier at least) if there were a derby final now. Look how many we took last year, add to that the rivalry and you've got even more of the part timers coming out.

There's loads more things for people to do, especially with kids and families are generally more mobile.
It's hard to build but oh so easy to destroy and years of empty promises I honestly don't think we will recover to average 12.5-13k a season unless we played rugby in the same way that Cas do or had the dogged determination and winning ways of Wigan.

2016 aggregate SL attendance 1.5million, 1949-50 season... 69.8 million though I know there were 29 teams playing 36 games each plus top 4 play-off plus one presumes this includes cup comps too, still incredible.

Not denying that that is a huge difference, but I would imagine today's attendances are a lot more accurate due to electronic scanners and people not being able to climb over fences etc. 70 million people is huge though!
