As we all know the amount of minutes he plays and the work he puts in is staggering. Sooner or later it must catch up with him. Every player if asked will say they want to play. He needs to be protected from himself. If the rumours are correct and we are going to play a mostly reserve side then it's very unlikely that we will win even if he play's so we might as well rest him.

he doesnt want his 76 consecutive games to be ended by resting him. He will play, plus we dont have a dedicated number 9 to replace him with. You cant put Litten/Washy/Hadley at hooker against Roby. Plus, Washy and Hadley will be needed in the back row in the absence of Mini, Frank, Manu etc

if Houghton wants to carry on playing - let him... its done him no harm so far
