Kind of like the idea of making it just the super 8s cos then games night be at a reasonable time, not going this year cos I cant make it back in time for work for example. Maybe the problem with that though is that it will lower attendances and the overall spectacle of the event with less sets of fans there to create the great atmosphere we see. Also you would maybe get some real dull games between two teams that have no chance of making the top 4, at least with the current system it is still unknown as to whether the result will affect a teams charge for the super 8s if you get what I mean. It is good in terms of it being a game that has to be played anyway seen as everyone in super 8s plays everyone else anyway and so it wont be unfairly weighted.
My solution would be to draw the teams out of a hat at random and them everyone has got the same chance of getting an easy/hard fixture. Would also cause a little bit of an excitement if they publicised the draw a little and got it on tv, even if it was just after a challenge cup game along with the draw in the cup.
