PRESS RELEASE Produced by FC VOICES: the official fans organisation of Hull FC THE BOULEVARD MEMORIAL UNVEILING On Saturday 19th September at 10-30am the Lord Mayor of Hull Councillor Anita Harrison will unveil a simple ‘standing stone’ in the grounds of the Boulevard Academy in Airlie Street. This will record, for future generations, the significance of the site as the location of the original Boulevard Rugby League Stadium. Provided by the fans of the Club to coincide with Hull FC’s 150th Anniversary celebrations, the monument will also commemorate the last resting place of the many fans of the Club whose ashes were scattered on the Ground throughout the years. Over the last three years FC Voices have worked with first the architects and then the trustees of the school to ensure that an area in the grounds of the new school was set aside for the memorial and the stone and accompanying seat has been provided thanks to financial assistance from principle sponsors the St Andrews Ward of Hull City Council. Other donations have been made by The ex Players Association, FC Voices, The Vice Presidents Association and the Club’s Disabled supporters Group as well as from individual fans. Admission to the event which will run between 10-00 and mid-day, is free of charge and all fans past and present are welcome. There will be music from the Driffield Silver Band, children’s entertainment, a short talk by the Club Historian Bill Dalton on the significance of the Stadium, a chance to walk on the site of the old pitch and a display of memorabilia on show in the school, plus free refreshments and a chance to meet the dozens of ex players who will be in attendance. Lisa Jewitt Chair of FC Voices says, “It has always been FC Voices intention to ensure that, although the Club now play in the prestigious surroundings of the KC Stadium, we never forget our old home at the Boulevard and that its importance and significance to the game of Rugby League, the Club and indeed the local community, is commemorated for future generations. We would like to thank the City Council, and all the supporter groups who have helped make the inclusion of this simple standing stone possible and we hope that as many FC fans as possible will attend the unveiling on the 19th September”

Hope some of you can make it for the unveiling. You'll also be able to walk out on the old pitch (which is now the schools playing field) with the help of a map that has been overlaid to show exactly where the tunnel was, Threpenny Stand etc and we are encouraging people to wear an old shirt to add to the nostalgia.
Please note there is no parking at the school except Disabled parking which is limited.
