After a shocking pre season, scraping past two Championship clubs and getting hammered by a makeshift FC side, it always looked like being a long, hard season. We then lose 14/15 games on the bounce and leave our rookie coach in position. Fifita coming back certainly gave us a lift and he will remembered fondly for his efforts but, ultimately, our cheap option coach and cheap option side have seen us finally succumb to relegation. In the final analysis, our complete lack of quality has seen us relegated. The barometer here is that in EVERY game we have played, with the exception of Fifita, not one of our players would have made it into the opposition starting line up and despite a brave effort v Catalan, the difference in quality is blindingly obvious. Such a sad, sad day for the club in what should have been a huge landmark year. Setting our stall out to try and finish 11th, has blown up in our faces big time and starting the new season, wanting and expecting the promoted side (Leigh) to be poor hasn't worked this time around. We have some blokes in the squad that have genuinely bust a gut this season and nobody can ever do more then their best but, ultimately, those responsible for assembling this squad have to take this one square on the chin. Hindsight is always a wonderful thing but, this was bleedin' obvious from before the season began. Gutted doesn't even come close. |
