Just a thought, but if RL scrums become redundant (Which seems more than likely) has anyone wondered what new names will be bestowed on the positions of: Scrum half, prop, hooker, 2nd rower and loose forward? Any suggestions?

They are already called middles (Props, Hooker, Loose Forward) and edges (Second Row, Centres, Wingers, halves) but if the names went I'd say they'd use numbers.

Without scrums the ability for a team to form and stop the clock is lost.

Scrums have almost been redundant for years.
You put it in you get it out. Its the same in union but they bang on abput the technical side of scrums.
I like svrums particularly when attacking gives the coaches the opportunity to work on attacking plays.

That’s why we can’t compete

They won't get rid of scrums.

But the terminology doesn't have to change anyway.
A Hooker hasn't been hooking the ball in years but we didn't change that name.

Doesnt really matter what we call them they would still all play out of their best position

At one time scrum half, hooker, open and blind side props, 2nd rowers and loose forwards all had their own particular skills and specific jobs to do. Now we have just forwards and backs. You get second rowers and loose forwards interchangeable with centres and win; hookers and halfbacks are interchangeable; Anyone can be a full back or centre apparently. somehow I think a little bit of class has been lost from the game.

I don't miss the tangled mess of contested scrums but I miss the scrum as part of the game, just because it feels like rugby.
