Post subject:  Miller time??

I've followed the game & Trin for over 30 years now, I played a bit at school to no great standard, and have never coached anybody to play the game. I know there are some on here who have coached at certain levels, and I wondered whether it's common practice to ask certain players within the squad, who they would prefer to play alongside to hopefully benefit the team?

I just think at present CC is making a bit of a rod for his own back as re. who Miller plays with. To me we have lacked general fluidity and rhythm all season, it's like we've just spluttered along with ball in hand most games. Recently, Hampshire was given a go alongside Miller, and I thought he did ok, but was he selected over Finn because CC wasn't happy with Finn, or to give him a rest, or because CC said pre-season he'd 'promised' Hampshire he would get some games at 7? Finn then came back after the Leeds game, played very poorly at Salford, so maybe now Hampshire will come back for Cas, we will have to see on that one. If he does I just wonder how Miller feels as re. having a different partner for a couple of games, then someone else. Finn obviously has a hand problem, so maybe he should be stood down for 5 or 6 games to give Hampshire a decent run so he can get an understanding with Miller?!

I am a Finn fan, but the bloke is obviously struggling with the broken finger and I personally would recall Hampshire for a few games as you suggest.I would also play Jowitt, Batch, Annakin and Crowther.
They're all champing at the bit and will only get better by being played.

Until we lose - and lose we will - and then they'll get pulled to bits on here.

Finn is in the team to run the game.
If Finn ain't in, who's gonna guide the ship, Rocky ?
How much importance do we place on guiding the ship compared to other skills.
I dunno, if Finn ain't in through injury, that thought comes in to sharper focus.
Regardless of what I think of Finns speed/form/performance, he runs the Wakey show win or lose.

This game is Cas away, its a bit of a nothing to lose game besides 2 points and a cricket score, at this stage of the season and the position we're in, give everybody a run and see if anyone shines...:D

You it the nail on the head Finn runs the show. Do not think he as made a good job of it.Miller as had his best games when Finn as not been playing ,against Hull and Leeds and so have Randell and Wood .Could it be any thing to do with Rocky he was putting balls in the air that had teams under pressure. In those 2 games they played against 4 very good half backs and gave as good as they got

I don't think Dale Morton's well remembered mistake against Cas' was the reason he didn't make it. I thought he was a fair player but perhaps just not SL quality?
The young lads I have mentioned, with the exception of Crowther have lots of SL games under their belt and are all first team squad members.
To me, if they are deemed good enough for the first team squad, they are good enough, mentally as well as physically to play. Just my opinion, of course! :D

Well this is kinda my point. If Chester is happy with Finn, why change things in the first place? Maybe you shouldn't be 'promising' players game time in certain positions on the proviso that's why they sign for the club. I'm not exactly sure when he picked up this injury, but it was always his intention to give Hampshire a run at 7 in at least a couple of games over the Easter period. Then he's gone back to Finn, with an injury, and he has a shocker at Salford in a heavy defeat, now what does he do?! Personally, I don't think you should be changing half backs around every 3 or 4 games, you surely have your first choice paring, then hopefully understudy's who can do a good job if you get an injury, but like I stated in my original post, I've never coached anyone, i'm sure it's bit of a headache for him at the mo, 'cause deep down I think he feels we should be doing better than we have been so far.... :?
