I have just been informed that with half of the steel work up and 12 months away from completion the major city centre development on what was the old market has gone tits up and the plug has been pulled on it Another Wakefield disaster overseen by our wonderful council, 10 years to plan the regeneration of Wakefield city centre, 12 months to destroy it |

thought they were having to top up the company to the tune of £7 million with what they say isn't coming from local goverment fund but the central goverment'so its not coming from council tax! oh brill it's just coming from our income tax so either way you look at it were paying! |

Yeah they were, but it was a finger in the dyke job, it was a multi million £ development, £7m wasn't going to make much difference if they were in trouble. A senior worker for Shepherds who are the construction company on the job told us about 6 months ago that they were worried that it wouldn't reach completion, but that they would just keep working until told to stop, it seems they've been told to stop. The whole development has been plagued with rumours that it wouldn't be completed from the day work started, if it's true, and I've no reason to doubt it, this will be a disaster for Wakefield, so many business's have been hit by the disruption of all the buliding work in the city and many of them have been holding on to the thought that completion would help them recover, I can see more than a few going to the wall. |

I guess we'll just have to make do with yet more Wakefield Express artists impressions, they always finish those. |
