Not many people will have a clue about the In Balance Magazine, what it's for etc.

It's a magazine that goes out to diabetes sufferers and often contains inspirational stories from various celebrities that have coped with diabetes whilst making a success of their lives.

This edition features Danny Sculthorpe on the front cover with a four page spread on how he lives and copes with his condition.

Those that don't know about diabetes, particularly Type 1, will have no comprehension of how intrusive it is and just how much it can affect your life.

As the father of a young daughter who was diagnosed 18 months ago I can tell you that inspirational figures like Danny are an invaluable asset when it comes to helping young kids to see that they can still live a full life.

I've also seen Danny on TV putting himself forward as an example to others of how being Type 1 diabetic doesn’t stop you from achieving your dreams.

I don't know if Danny reads this message board but just in case he does I'd like to go on record with my thanks to him for the time and care he takes in trying to help others cope.

Brent Stuart from Manly performs as a similar roll model for young sportsmen and women.

As a side note regarding Danny, if some of his critics were to understand his condition better they might not be so quick to have a go.

What a surprise when the mag came through the letter box this morning to see Danny in his Wildcats top on the cover. I'm not diabetic but a member of my family is. I know that being diabetic doesn't need to stop a person from doing things but it's sure as hell an added complication when playing a demanding game like rugby league. Not many other players have to check blood sugar levels before and during the game - too low and he could go in to a coma. I've got great respect for all players but especiallly well done Danny - what a great example.
