Played half a dozen times for the Eels first grade… finished last season in NSW playing lock! Had big wraps this time last year…

He’s done all the junior rep stuff like origin and kangaroos, got coaches player of the year in the NSW team. See what comes of it.

I bet all of us knew about Proctor. The key is the guy entrusted to make/recommend these signings does, or at least has the time to do research and check backgrounds of these players if he doesn't.

We're in the Championship so we're hardly likely to get established NRL players coming over. What I do like is these seem to be young, upcoming players with a point to prove rather than past it, older players on a holiday.

Didn't you have about 15 overseas players who did pretty well in the mud when you were in the championship?

Just read an article that Trojan Horse put up about the best up-and-coming young players who are on the verge of regular NRL game time and as he says Ty Rodwell was on the fairly short list and it says this about him
Quote:Ky Rodwell is coming off his best season to date and is knocking on the door of a regular NRL spot. The 24-year-old prop had an enormous 2023, averaging 147 running metres and 34 tackles a game for the Eels’ NSW Cup side, while also working on developing his ball-playing skills. Rodwell made his NRL debut in 2021 and got four more games in 2022 but didn’t get any opportunities in first grade last season. He was rewarded for his efforts in Cup though with the Coaches Award. With now 74 reserve grade games under his belt, Rodwell is primed for the next step.

I tell you 147 running meters average a game and 37 tackles are nothing to be sniffed at even in the NSW Cup especially for a Prop, they obviously see him as a prospect, with the end-of-season Coaches award and the fact he's a taste of the NRL. Whether he's the player on our radar is another thing though, but I hope he is because he looks like one of those that will be SL-ready when the time comes.

I believe they record the meters differently to how we do it. I think they do it from when the player gets the ball where as we do it from the advantage line.

147 is still impressive though.

If he’s in line for an NRL birth I think it’s highly unlikely he will be coming to England any time soon unfortunately for us.

Unofficially the most boring poster on Cherry and White.

He sure sounds like a decent option. There were a number of promising write ups on that list. There was a halfback too who looks to be top points scorer in the NSW cup or something.

I’m really interested to see who we may bring in. With most clubs quotas filled we could be in a good position to pick up a player who could step up with Trinity in 2025 and have us challenging for playoffs.

Top six 2005 - Trinity.

Could be a tough call to make for the club, in terms of half back, for 2025.

I'm not convinced Gale will be around, hes missed a few games for us already and I think this year is a big year for Lino. For me, in his three years hasn't set the world alight. He may well have a good season this year, if so do we gamble on him at a level he struggled with, bearing in mind we extended his contract by a further 3 years.

Tough call either way

I think Powell knows exactly what he wants from his halfbacks, you only need to look at how his teams have played in the past.
If Lino can step up and play the role Powell expects then he might well be the man for the job going forward. If not then I doubt he’ll be here next season.
