FWIW Dunkirk the day you are struggling to get a seat more or less where you want will be the day we’ve cracked it as a club.

The old stand held 1200 and I can count on one hand the number of times that was ever tested in recent times.

The new stand holds 2600, all of which are unrestricted viewing. Of those 2600 I reckon at least 1200 fall between the centre line and 30 meter line with all but the first few front rows no having an elevation equal to the old stand.

So I know you were being a bit tongue in cheek but how full the new east stand gets will be the ultimate barometer of how well we are doing.

For significant parts of the clubs history the whole average match day crowd could fit in the new east stand.

:D

Vasty, I was just thinking about those fans that used to stand on the East Terrace in front of the old East Stand. On a good day there would be a few hundred fans standing there. That facility for standing is no longer available, where do you think those fans will go? Do they pay extra to sit in the new stand, do they go onto the North Terrace if there is enough room subject to capacity limit. Believe me, some match days I do hope MC & JM are scratching their heads wondering where to put everyone.

With you. Sadly that option is gone. So north stand or take a seat.

Personally I’ve decided to go seating next season for the first time ever and tbh I’m ready for it.

I’ve been in northstand for 25 years as a fan. I’m seriously thinking of moving to the new stand when built. If we could fill it and make it a true home stand it would be hugely beneficial to the club no doubt. Also seems silly to have a state of the art facility and not use it as a fan.

Trojan Horse wrote:Funny you should mention the south area. I was only thinking the very same last night. It’s an ideal site for a 3/4000 stand as you say which is basic with a concourse under and a couple of bars. In fact it probably only needs to be a 2000 - 3000 max one. It would be a bonus if you could have a couple of boxes in there for match days but probably not essential.

I’d personally consider leaving the west stand if as you say it’s structurally sound and look at getting the south done. That said you may lose some match day income from the boxes as they’d have to go.

There was talk in the past about us partnering with a football team.

Could this potentially allow access to funding to further develop facilities. I’m not sure if this is still an option or which local club may be interested. We had a brief connection with Leeds reserves and Emley. I wonder if it’s worth re-establishing some links or at least exploring it.

I actually posted the other day on the Facebook pages, about the old south stand, seeing what people's memories of it were, and if people had any old photos of it. It was knocked down before I started going, and sadly my Dad is no longer with us. It did look and sound quote impressive.

I do agree though, that if gates do go up, it is something we need to look at. Like I've said in the past, Rome wasn't built in a day, and like (my supposed other team) I think its taken Hull KR 30 years to develop Craven Park. I'm sure when they moved there in about 1990, there was only one stand.

You mean on the North Terrace?

Back in the day I was usually one of the yobs in the South Stand, then migrated to North Terrace when south area was cleared, then moved to southern end of Western Terrace until we got cleared for the away fans. Have been in North Stand since it was built.
Hate sitting down for the games.
