Trojan Horse wrote:Why weaken even more positions? Not only are you playing Griffin in an unfamiliar position but you’re also then weakening the right edge and robbing it of a destructive runner and it will be harder to get consistency in attack even more so.

Plus, Griffin scores try’s by bumping off smaller players on the edge close to the line.

Rodwell, Uele and Shaw will be fine in the middle. Leave the 3 other forwards in Griffin, Ashurst and Pitts where they are at 11,12,13.

You just interchange smart:

Starting - Rodwell + Shaw

25 - Rodwell + Uele

65 - Shaw + Uele

Rodwell - 65 mins
Uele - 55 mins
Shaw - 40 mins

I didn't say to play Griff there all game but maybe to potentially move him to the middle for maybe 20 minutes to rotate the middles more normally.
Also, do you have Rodwell playing all the first half, then starting the 2nd until 65 minutes, and then changing him for Shaw? Ky's a monster with a good engine but I reckon a 65-minute stint would be pushing him a bit.

Rodwell played full 80 minutes at second row so yes I do have him playing the whole first half and part of second.

The minutes were an example to show it’s possible that’s all to rotate 3 props.

He could go off at 60 if needed but pushing an extra 10 m in utes or so out of Rodwell and Uele (who haven’t looked gassed much this season) will imho be our best move. It’s a needs must scenario.

Is it ideal. No. Is it better than moving players around and playing edge players in the middle weakening the edges and possibly upsetting the defensive line if players are unfamiliar with the position. Yes.

I’m just not a fan of patching a position and therefor weakening another. Others could have different views.

I will though be happy with whatever Powell goes with. He’s got it right so far afterall.

Playing 80 minutes at SR is not the same as 80 minutes at prop.

He can play long minutes but it isn't hard to work a rest in.

Poptart beat me to it, but playing SR for 80 is different than hammering it down the middle and defending there for 65 straight. I normally agree that we don't move people around, unless we have no choice at all, a bit like now. Anyway, DP has got a bit of a job on but no doubt he'll come up with the best way we can work this all out, so we'll see.

That’s why you look to take some of the load off the props with more early carry runs from the backs and second row forwards. You would adapt your game accordingly to suit your plan. I’m sure the coaching team will have a plan but there are a few options. That is just what I’d prefer.

As others have said previously, the back end of the season is more important, so it's better not to rush players back. There's no need. If we lose a few in the regular season, and today could be such a day, so be it.

Ashurst playing prop today with Thornley in second row.
It's going to be a tough one.
Especially on a wet postage stamp of a field.
