It isn't total points scored. It is the performance part of the IMG grading.

Apologies if this has already been covered, I’ve read somewhere that if a club achieves a A grade, they are then safe for the following season, is that correct?

It purely determines what league your in following season. I think if we were to get an A tomorrow it would guarantee SL in 2025 but then reviewed 2026 October and 2027 would be decided by that score. Hope that makes sense.
