It has not been an enjoyable experience, obviously there was relief but not pleasure. Then there was the hope of the close season, hope that we would sign significant players, hope that maybe another SL club would look to have messed up. Hope is a bugger and expectations for whatever reasons were never met, worse still was the constant loss of quality players.
So this year it was obvious from watching the pre season matches that our squad was simply not capable enough of competing with any other SL squad, every pundit, expert and bookie has us as nailed on for relegation, the matches to date have proved that in reality our squad is basically a half decent Championship side.
The first positive for me is that despite their obvious lack of ability the squad as a whole have never given less than 100 % apart from the Wigan match and of course Gaskill in every game he plays.
The main positive is that we know the outcome of this season already, relegation is a certainty, we have time to adjust to the feeling, even the jibes from other clubs supporters are easy to accept, it is what it is, in the words of Pink Floyd ... there is no pain, you are receding, a distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
I am Comfortably Numb.
