Sandal Wild Cat wrote:As for Wakefield RU, we on the whole have a tainted view of the sport, but there is a market for it IF it is pushed & promoted in the correct way. A lot of people said the same when Leeds Tykes in the 90's & look how much of a money spinner that has been for Leeds Sport. We have the likes of Quegs in our region as well as RU being taught in most high schools over RL, so there is familiarity within the region, it would just be up to WRU to re-establish themselves.

(Semi-) Professional rugby union in this city is dead and completely unviable. It couldn't attract crowds or sponsors to keep afloat a second-tier club, and I see no reason why it would now, especially moving it away from its home at College Grove and that area of the city.

Leeds RU was the perfect combination of timing, Caddick's involvment in the mergers and being able to spend, despite low crowds, and get to the top tier.

Wakefield FC, as mentioned, now have a perfect size home for the level they are at and where they can potentially get to. They couldn't afford the overheads of 200 people rattling around a 12k stadium.

I hope we, sorry, the Trust, can attract others to the project, but think you are barking up the wrong tree.

I hope there's more there than the Motley Crew outside the Town Hall baying for Box's blood.

Does SWAG expect a decent attendance, or, will I have to trail over to bolster the numbers?

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in. They're eating the cats! They're eating the pets!

Doesn't matter - and the motley crue did a great job! :D

The meeting, and the campaign will run on - even if our crappy local rag don't seem to think that sports facilities in Wakefield are very newsworthy!

Not happy with today's coverage of SWAG's or the Community Trusts press release - at all.

Well here's the chance for you to question the motives behind the Express' coverage of the stadium issue, and other things besides, of course.

(Don't know why the published date is July 23rd when the article appeared today, but there you go)

We should get a demonstration of support for the stadium in town - a saturday ideally, just raise a bit of awareness and get some signatures.

If that preacher bloke can get people listening to him then im sure a group of Trinity clad fans can do it.

Then see if the express gives us a page of coverage and also a spot on the front cover.

phil why not pass on forms to each of the local rugby clubs in the wakefield area each has as many as 8 sides each team would have anything from 10 -17 parents
I am doing my year at stanley and will try the opposition as well, I have passed on some to neighbours that didn't make the meeting and will round them up when you need them
