If we're trying to attract a families into Belle Vue and enjoy the matches in a good atmosphere, wouldn't it be nice to cut out calling Castleford fans/players 'retards' or 'inbreds' and the like. Just seems to me to be in bad taste and not needed at all.

It's hard for me to bite my tongue being married to a born and bred Cas lass. We were in Vegas tonite and saw plenty of Amber shirts. Hard. Maybe just keep it between ourselves on forums.

Does it happen at the ground? Maybe it does in chav corner, but I've never heard it from where we stand.
I can't imagine the families you speak of will read this forum and base their decision on whether to attend or not based on the type of insults that are being traded between rival fans.

But do we really need to use words like that on here regardless?

9 times out of 10 I'd agree with that but we're local rivals and the ever increasing emnity is beginning to produce derbies with feeling, if not attendances, to match those in Hull. If insults and arguments are the price we must pay to create one of the most local and meaningful SL derbies, I can live with that as long as we can keep a lid on the violence.
Anyway call us what you want this week....suppose "winners" is out of the question

Well I'm sure the Cas fans weren't offended when you shouted it at your TV the other night.

Difficult to keep emotions in check given the massive chip on the shoulder regarding all things Wakefield that SOME Cas fans insist on carrying round with them at all times.Personally I would say that if certain players/fans display all the symptoms of being "retarded" or "inbred" or just downright morons this should be pointed out to them at every opportunity,If it looks like a idiot, acts like a idiot, and sounds like a idiot etc. At games I have no issues with this as long it is done with sensitivity to your surroundings and use of certain expletives,I used to find that if somebody got a bit too carried away a quiet word from fellow fans tended to tone things down.

Probably not, but then there are lots of words used on here and in many other contexts that don't *need* to be used, but still are; personally, I tend to be averse to prohibition in a general sense, and since there has been this type of banter between Wakefield and Castleford in both a rugby and non-rugby setting for decades, I see no reason to call for a cessation of hostilities on here.
With the exception of a couple of very slow witted posters on both sides it's actually quite entertaining and when it does get out of hand, the mod process seems to be effective enought at nipping it in the bud.

This is a very good point but sadly it is not just personal insults thrown at such as Cas' fans but the vile language that often accompanies the insult. I like to think I'm a man of the world but on Saturday I was with my wife (possibly a new member next season) and we had to move away from a section of Trinity 'fans' who's level of intelligence was reflected in the langaue they used. They don't care if women or young kids are present. The use of such insults and langauage indicates a lack of respect for others and surely affects attendance!

The term "retard" is not acceptable on this and other boards on this site (except the Catalans board, if you're writing in French ). There has been a long debate amongst the mods of all boards about its use, brought about by complaints from certain supporter groups who found it very offensive. Out of respect for these groups, we decided not to allow it in its common form of usage on this board.
Personally, I don't like the term "inbred" in the way that it's used on here either. I much prefer the expression "6-fingered friends".
