The existing Cougar scoreboard is the most iconic in rugby league and part of the club's heritage especially with the original 40 minute clock. Best to keep it I'd say. Spend the money on a big digital clock with a system to link it to an official timekeepers system so the crowd can see exactly how much game time has gone. Then just fix the digital clock to the top of the existing scoreboard. Anybody agree?

The old scoreboard should stay where it is with the hands permanently set to the time Danny died, the teams should be set to Keighley and London. A small but poignant tribute to a big, big player.
New scoreboard could go somewhere close by.

Excellent idea but it has got to be maintained/kept in good repair!

Think you need to forget that. The stand has been re-named the Danny Jones Stand, there's a memorial plaque, the number 6 shirt has been retired, there's a tribute in the Hollindrake stand. There have been other Keighley players that died at a young age. Nobody touched by Danny's death will ever forget the shock. But Lizzie Jones shows how to move on positively whilst never forgetting.

I'm not sure why I should "forget" anything, just because you say so.

If the fans want to justify keeping a piece of obsolete equipment they need good reasons:
One, is of course, that is an iconic piece of club history and deserves keeping in its own right.
The added connection with Danny is another. It would take little effort to set the clock hand and add a teams name. It is not a question of comparing the premature passing of our beloved players nor of failing to move on.

I'm sure a sponsor could be found to pay the few quid for a paint touch up every few years.

Altho I feel another memorial is not necessary as you feel so strongly parhaps you could sponsor the paint or even volunteer to do the painting .The volunteers at CP do a fantastic job and finding sponsors for even a small amount of money is not easy.Over to you.

I didn't say I felt strongly, I made a justification for keeping an obsolete piece of equipment. If you want to keep something, you find as many reasons why you should as possible.
I agree that volunteers do a fine job, I've volunteered my time, money and sponsorship many times in the past.
A question for you, if you want to keep the clock as it is how do you propose to maintain the paintwork? Over to you.

Have we a date we are going to have this new scoreboard for, as that original message was from April, just before the Wednesday night fixture against Barrow.

Regardless of when and where the new electronic scoreboard is installed, we should definitely keep our original scoreboard. It's a very important part of Cougar Park, a constant as long as I've been going down (late 70s). I for one love it and would be very sad to see it removed.
