Some interesting results this afternoon. Just goes to show the hotbeds of Rugby League in South Wales, London and the North East are living up to their reputation !! As opposed to the amateur teams that have beaten them who are truly from proper rugby league areas and should be getting the support from RFL ![]() |

Quote:'.... we are coming back to Cougar Park now, so we are hoping it’s going to be a fortress in all competitions for us this season.' Paul March, Keighley News, Thursday February 25th 2016 So what happened today when we allowed Coventry to go 18 up without any response at all? You don't have to be a brain surgeon to understand that playing 'catch-up rugby' isn't the best way to win games, so why do we always seem to give our opponents a start? Is it impossible for our coach to ensure that his (and our) players are ready to compete immediately from the whistle as our opponents always appear to be? Then it was 54 points without any response from Coventry before we went to sleep again and allowed them to score again without any response from our players! 'Same old Keighley' springs to mind ...... |

Historically yes the teams in traditional RL heartlands are going to be stronger on the field ,but take as an example Hemel have a pro team , two amateur open age sides , junior club sides from U7's to 16's and EVERY Upper and Primary in the town have some RL coaching either at tag or full contact level happening in their school for boys and girls . The Skolars have a strong base in North London covering not just youth rugby but overseeing the amateur clubs, Masters and Student RL ,( a damn sight more than happens in Keighley !!) .Doesn't that make them proper RL areas ? |

Which player do you think deserved the man of the match? |

Thanks GW. Why is it not possible for anyone to post any criticism on this Forum? Have you read what our coach said of the match: Quote:Head Coach Paul March was far from happy with his side’s performance on the day. “We found out how difficult the League One campaign will be this season today and to be truthful, it feels like a defeat this afternoon. “I thought our attitude starting the game was very poor and we didn’t get Coventry the respect they deserved and it’s showed throughout this cup weekend that if you don’t turn up with the right attitude, you’ll get beat. Paul March, Keighley Cougars' website, February 29th 2016 It would appear that I am not alone in my views ...... As for coming back, they did well to do so but then slackened-off yet again. Hence my comment: 'Same old Keighley', which has always been the case over the 50 years that I have been watching from the 'scrattin shed' and terraces of Lawkholme. I was not present at the game, as I now live on the south coast, but do receive regular texts throughout all home games from my mate (yes, I do have one) who is still a loyal supporter and has been for over 60 years and you might like to see (or possibly not) some of his texts about Sunday's game: Quote:Sunny day, no wind. £10 to get in, hope it's worth it. Bad start! 6 - 0 down after 2 minutes. 15 minutes gone. Keighley very poor. Now 12 - 0 down!! 18 - 0 now! A glimmer of hope. 18 - 4 but very poor. Now 18 - 10. Barnes try Bears have lost the plot. Now 44 - 18 Superior fitness. Now 48 - 18 From Joshua Chapman's report, it would appear that Ross Peltier should have been/was our Man of the Match: Quote:R Hawkyard 6; Gabriel 6; Martin 6; Barnes 6; White 6; Brook 6; Handforth 6; Law 6; Feather 6; Rawlins 6; Oakes 7; D Hawkyard 6; Lindsay 7. Subs: Cherryholme 6; Bailey 7; Ollett 7; Peltier 8.

I personally think we have a good team out there, but need to work on our defence a lot more. Players I'm not a particularly great fan of are, Cherryholme, hes good in some respect, but he doesn't do nothing for me where Ross puts more effort into it. Handforth again a good player, but Darvill needs to be on pitch as Brook & Darvill work brilliant together, rather than handforth & Brook. Darvill & Brook remind me of two players who were brilliant together. Last of all Rawlo needs to concentrate on his ball handling skills, how to keep hold of the oval ball ![]() A so so game on Sunday, crap start, great in between, crap finish with a good scoreline, but we can't afford to play like this. Defence is our biggest weakest problem that needs sorting. |

Or do you keep going with the same point over and over. |

Only history will prove either of us right or wrong Rach. London has only had approximately 35 years history, so I will hold my hand up in another 10 years if there has been a shift (surely 45 years is long enough). Chances are also that all the good work down there will be lost to Ra RA rugby when they are adults. I cannot argue with the demographics that London has for it not to work (10 million or thereabouts to pick from) I never thought I would hear a Cougar fan defending areas/teams that became part of the reason Cougars were denied entry to Super Dooper League. I never stated either that Keighley was a hotbed (unless Siddal, Featherstone, Cumbria, St Helens and Castleford have suddenly have become part of the Worth Valley) |
