How do they work? I've just had a conversation with my pal and we realised neither of us know. Is it the top 8 in Championship 1 playing off against each other? Or is it the top 4 of Champ 1 and the bottom 4 of the Championship?

British rugby league’s third tier will increase to 15 teams and adopt a Super League-style mid-season split, with club chairmen and chief executives approving the decision at a meeting last week.

French club Toulouse have been offered and accepted a place in the division, with teams playing each other once before the top eight break off and play each for a second time.

Meanwhile, sides that finish in the bottom seven after 14 regular season matches will play off for their own prize – much like the current Championship Shield.

The split is designed to produce more competitive matches in a division currently defined by its north-south divide.

In the League 1 Super 8, teams play each other once with the top four teams having four home fixtures and the bottom four having three home fixtures.

After seven matches, first will play second in the League 1 Promotion Final with the winning team promoted; the losing team will enter a four-club play-off with a home fixture against the fifth-placed team whilst second plays third. The winners of those two matches will then contest a play-off final for the second promotion place.

Oh good, another logical, inherently easy to understand format. Does anybody remember the idea of a league structure, home and away to every other team and the team thart finishes top is the winner?

RL in England must be the laughing stock of the sporting world ,
probably The only sport in the world where the best team don't go up automatically.

The RFL are A total joke.
