The Keighley Cougars 2015 Squad Numbers have been released this morning ahead of the forthcoming League One season. Following the departures of many of last season’s squad who held numbers 1-17, Paul March has given promotions to many of those who held numbers lower down the pecking order. Jesse Sheriffe takes the number 1 jersey following James Craven’s departure to Batley, with Sean Hesketh’s move to the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium seeing Ross Peltier take the number 10 jersey. Richie Barnett & Elliot Cosgrove’s moves to Hunslet see Gavin Duffy, who scored 11 tries on loan at the Hawks last season, and Daley Williams taking the number 2 & 3 shirts. Danny Lawton (4) & Scott Law (8) take the shirts vacated by the retiring James Haley & Andy Shickell. Ash Lindsay moves to 11 following Josh Lynam’s original departure which leaves Josh with 28 with David March taking Ash’s 13 jersey from 2014. Player-Coach Paul March has moved himself to the 26 shirt with Luke Haigh taking his vacated 14, Scott Law moving to 8 sees 15 go to Neil Cherryholme, with Lewis Graham moving into Chezza’s 18 jersey. Olly Pursglove has moved to 17 following his full time return to Cougar Park with Matthew Bailey moving to 19, Ryan Patchett taking 20 and Sean Kelly moving down to 21. New boy Aaron Nicholson takes the 23 shirt with youngster Chris Watson moving from 31 to 22. The three players promoted from the Under 20′s side are Liam Darville (24), Andy Gabriel (25) and Tom Courtney (27). Isaac Brown, who is with the club on a trial basis, will be allocated the 29 jersey later if he earns himself a contract. Old fashioned I know but I liked the old system where 1 was the full back for the game and 13 was the loose forward. It identified the position and the programme identified the player in the shirt or cahnges were notified by the audio system. If you want consistency and to keep people interested and introduce new people then the previous post , to me, shows how to complicate something simple which wasn't IMO necessary. However it's another RL genie out of the bottle I suppose, just like away kits. It was far easier when you could identify a team by it's colours and the ONLY time to change was if there was an obvious colour clash. It seems absured to me , to think back of Salford REDs playing in green and black at home against Leeds who played in pink and dark blue hoops. Mind you as I get older my eyes get worse so I didn't realise that RED was an obvious colour clash with BLUE and GOLD. To me it would be easier to promote the UNIQUE Red Green and White of the Cougars. The only teams I could forsee a potential colour clash are the Skolars and at a pinch Hunslet. Why don't the clubs just promote one set of colours? Anyway as long as the players perform to best of their ability it could be a good season. It's down to them . |
