Before we condemn Paul March it is interesting to compare performances. In Jason Demetriou's two seasons at Cougars he won 21 games and amassed league 74 points. In Paul March's two seasons he has won 20 games and amassed 77 league points. The stats are: Jason Demetriou: Pl 38 Won 21 Drawn 1 Lost 26 Points for 1058 Against 780 Bonus Points 9. Paul March: Pl 52 Won 20 Drawn 0 Lost 32. Points for 1079 Against 1320 Bonus points 17. If we had beaten Leigh, Batley and Featherstone, which we narrowly lost, the stats would have been even more positive for Paul March. Though the 2014 season lasted 2,080 minutes the outcome was decided in the last four! Don't forget in JD's second season he could play the likes of Korkides, Obst and Tadulala. |

Quite right! The 2011 Season in Championship 1 was JD's better season winning 13 of Cougars 20 games. In Championship 2012 Cougars won 8 of their 18 games. Last season Cougars won 12 of their 26. JD has proven himself in Australia though to be an outstanding coach but I think we should not judge Marchy too harshly as his record is, in my opinion, not that bad in comparison. |

If you're looking at stats you must also consider that JD was a "rookie" coach with a whole lot of learning to do. Marchy was experienced having already coached Hunslet and York and had played with us under JD. So, JD moved back to Aus, now with two years coaching experience ( less than Marchy had when he came here), in a completely different league and returned 40 wins from 52 games, that's a 78% win ratio!! No mean feat!! Good enough to be picked up by an NRL club. Looking at the players, Korky was no better than either Shick or Sheriffe, he commented that he was surprised how tough the tackling was. Obst was no better than Handforth and Tadulala missed a fair chunk of games. Stats can be deceptive when examined in isolation. I'm not knocking any player or coach just adding some more facts to give a more complete picture. |
