Post subject:  Home Kit Colours - History?

In what year did we change our home kit colours?

I believe our original kit was blue and white. What did it look like? Was it blue and white stripes?

What prompted us to change our colours to red and green as they are now? Was it due to the amount of Welsh players in the team and we adapted the colours to fit that? To change to a combination of red and green seems like a strange decision otherwise. I mean, we are defying all fashion rules, clearly going against the "red and green should never be seen" rule. At the same time, our colours do make us a unique rugby league club.

A guy I work with was telling me that he saw the kit that we were going to wear if we were allowed entry in to the Super League. He said it was blue and white and made by Reebok. He thought that we may have changed our home colours back to those original colours. It is also possible that this could have been an away shirt.

Any historians know more about this?

We see a lot on this forum about current happenings, but very little information on club history. I'm of the opinion that if blue and white were our original colours, we should definitely always have blue and white as our away kit to reflect our history.

Just saw that shirt on Google. Never seen that before.

Does anyone have any rare, old shirts that they could post pictures of?

That's a replica of the 1937 Challenge Cup final shirt, As it was Coronation Year (the final happened in the same week I believe ) I'm fairly sure it was decided that the team would break with tradition and play in a kit that represented the Union flag , Red shirt , White shorts and blue socks .

Anyone know any more on my original questions?

I didn't know we wore a completely different kit for the Challenge Cup Final. The only pictures I have seen of that have been in black and white, so that makes it pretty difficult!
