Keighley Cougars are throwing their doors open to all girl rugby players aged 12 years old and above on Saturday.

The Cougars are set to launch a brand new girls Rugby League club called the ‘Keighley Cougar Prowlers’ and they are staging their first open coaching session at Cougar Park on Saturday from 1.00pm until 3.00pm.

Qualified coaches will be on hand to guide the girls through the skills sessions.

Although the club is targeting girls who are 12 and over in age, any girl interested in playing Rugby League is welcome to attend the training session.

The new club will be entered into a competition where they can play regular fixtures and have its own qualified team management.

Keighley Cougars holds the Clubmark Gold award which demonstrates that it provides a safe environment for young athletes; qualified coaches and managers and has adopted the appropriate policies which deliver assurances concerning both Health and Safety and Equity.

It is indeed another positive step by the club, sadly my playing days long gone had to retire too many black eyes

Thankfully I'm far too old for this nowadays, but its certainly a great idea.

Besides which I'm working Saturday, and working till late because of people who might want to bet on the boxing! :(

When you say girls does this mean only up to a certain age too or is it open age?

Nice to see.My daughter played ror Warrington girls u14s and 16s,finished now (too old).
You'll be quite surprised about the quality of some of the players.1 of the Warrington girls Emily Rudge (16),is now in the England squad in France for 2 test matches and last year played in the womens wc in Australia another girl from last years 16s Jodie Cunningham has also been selected.

Its great from a social aspect. The league structure is Yorkshire and North west. They have tournaments and the winners of the tornaments meet in a final.Last year, both Warrington teams won the northern rail cup,the 16s beat Middleton before the Salford/Donny final at Blackpool.

We also toured Australia, which we believe was the 1st tour of australia for any schoolgirls sporting team from this country.Thegirls played 4 games, winning 2 and losing 2.It was a fantastic experience for all of us who went over to Sydney.

So in short, encourage the girls to take part,it gives them confidence and sets them apart from the rest.best of luck to all concerned.
