We are from Keighley. We are NOT Bradfordians.

We need to separate the on field stuff from the DR scandal stuff now. Yes yes Batley fans you won some key games, we lost some, good work and happy for the fans, unhappy for us. All that aside now.

I expect a messy end to this, I hope this lawyer is no win no fee. Arbitration is voluntary isn't it? As in the RFL will have to agree to go into it? I can see us being shafted again.

And with Batley due to play in 6 days; it'll need to be quick

If Batley do play before proceedings progress, the result can be expunged and the team they play progress.

The team that misses out on the playoffs will require financial compensation

This thread from another forum is very interesting for a number of reasons:
http://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.php ... -tomorrow/

It was started just before the Sheffield v Batley match in which Batley fielded the ineligible Super League player who scored in their win

- somebody posted the relevant dual registration eligibility rule in the thread
- it demonstrates how desperately Batley needed a win in that match and how short of players they were

And it makes you think that Batley made a conscious decision to play the ineligible player, hoping he would help them get the win and then kept their fingers crossed they'd get away with it.

If Batley had done that (played an ineligible Super League player) in the last round of league matches last Sunday, you might guess even the rugby league would have stuck to the points deduction penalty.

What good will saving it do.
If no one from the Batley club read it. It means nothing.
Also how can anyone prove someone from the Batley club read it?

Everyone's getting a bit carried away. Apparently Batley called the RFL 3 times to clarify Fairbanks was eligible in addition the match commissioner was asked. I do however think it is up to the club to decide aswell and were in full possession of the rules and as yet have not been punished for breaking the rules.
Neither has any team been punished for breaking DR rules in history.

I am told that we have a strong case and another lawyer is being consulted tomorrow. We have lots of support generally because everyone finds the RFL inept. You never know and if the chairman can afford a legal challenge then why not.

You have a point. I suppose it depends if someone from the club staff is a regular poster and posted on that thread.

What it does indicate is how desperate they were for players. There may be news articles from the rugby press and the local paper that indicate that too. It isn't in itself proof of anything but may demonstrate a reason why they felt the risk of playing an illeligible player worth it.
When you are gathering evidence, every little helps. Anyway the legal people will know if it's worth keeping
