Firstly I think Dewsbury played great tonight, running hard and fast all over the field and passing the ball for fun at times. Looking at the comments from Dewsbury fans and at the team they fielded it was quite a young team tonight with only a few old heads in there. If thats what they can do on a night like this in these conditions I can only imagine how good they will be on a dry sunny day, definately a team to watch this year from what I've seen.
As for us I think the team we have this year is probably one of the strongest we have had for a while and definately believe we've got a team that win games BUT for me its a repeat of last year, same old predictable rugby one man rugby straight down the middle. As the game went on every set, every play the ball you just knew what we were going to do. My opinion just not good enough. Players that stood out tonight for me were Handforth and Stead, Handforth on a couple occasions tonight reminded me of when JD was here and what I was batting on about last season so many times he is a player that shows passion and at times tonight was shouting at team mates when things were going wrong and when stood on our try line you could see him frustrated and getting his opinions accross to the boys which is the sort of thing we lacked last year. Ben Stead still has loads to learn and probably needs a little more confidence but for me he is a first team player, he gets stuck in, dinks about with a bit of pace and his kicking along with Handforths is something we missed badly last year.
So far with the friendlies we've played I dont think we have anything to get excited about just yet, Rochdale it was men against boys, a team that had just gained promotion and like their kit was dreadful really. Barrow we played last year and from what I hear it was a good game and yes we have to take into account that its always been a hard ground to go to so I thought tonight would see where we are at as the team Marchy picked was a pretty strong team with only a couple big hitters missing but we was out played.
The team now has 2 weeks I think to prepare for the last friendly at Batley which wont be an easy task before the season kicks off with yet more tough fxtures lined up. This has to be one of our clubs like the rest most important seasons for years and I can bet that every team will be playing their hearts out to get into that top 8 but do I confidently think we will make it in the top 8 with no worries, NO.
I pray to god I'm wrong I really do but even though I like Marchy and I think he has a brilliant rugby brain I still have to stand by my opinion of last year and say that I dont think he is going to lead us to glory.
