Interesting how this has been going a week and we don't even have a thread on it?? Is anybody really interested in this competition anymore?? Is it worth keeping in the sporting calendar?? |

Including pretty much all of the cycling team (it clashes with the european champs, which is a qualifier for London 2012), the majority of the gymnastics squad (the world champs are next week and their funding is determined by results there) and 3 world/olympic champions in track and field giving it a miss it's hardly a surprise to anyone here the aussies are top of the medals table. |

How wrong have they got the ticketing? Everywhere is empty when it's on the telly. Most likely due to over pricing, just like the last cricket world cup, that and it is clashing with India vs Aussies test match. |

Mind you this is exactly what the aussie media were doing at Beijing, when they realised Great Britain had more gold, they pointed out that Australian had won more overall medals, only for GB to then go and pip them by them end. They didn't mention that. Nowadays they only go on about how GB are spending nearly 500,000,000 dollars on winning medals in London and getting lots of top coaches, (including Australian ones of course). Thing is they have been doing that since 1976. |

If the Commonwealth Games and the opportunity to win medals at it continues to be treated with disdain by some of its more high profile eligible competitors, should it still have a place in the sporting calendar? Why not just having separate "Commonwealth Championships" for each individual sport, then they can schedule them at a time which enables all the elite competitors to take part? |
