Correct decision for me, doing himself no good scratching around in county cricket with no chance of regaining an England place.

Will go down in history as one of England's best test captains. I will never forget those 2005 Ashes which he played a massive part in.

sad news, my occasional 'Brearley' line indicate how esteem i held him as a captain, sadly his dreadful injuries never saw him attain the levels with his own form that we all hoped for and he was capable of - I hope is cricketing brain is utilised when the time is right for all concerned.

I thought he had retired three years ago. He certainly hasn't done much for Yorkshire for ages.

A shame that his later 'efforts' have probably overshadowed his excellent previous efforts.

Only a total sad case would let the very recent past outweigh his magnificent England career

Thanks for that personal insult. I'm sure he's worried by my opinion. Parky'll cheer him up.

Great player before he became captain. He became a magnificent captain, perhaps England's best ever, but gradually forgot his form with the bat. Sad news for Vaughan, but probably the best decision. He should go on til the end of the season.

Vaughan

Looks like he can't even manage his own retirement properly. Or perhaps some people jumped the gun, and should check the facts first.

I agree, the BBC did jump the gun along with several of the papers.

Just in time to get a job with a media outlet for the Ashes series.
