I was a Houston Oilers fan from when C4 showed the NFL from the 80s and I thought about becoming a Steeler after the Oilers quit but decided to carry on with the Tennessee Oilers and then Tennessee Titans and do I regret it ? Not one little bit.

I vaguely remember watching on Channel 4 back in the day when I was younger and also playing Joe Montana Football on the Sega Megadrive but I never really followed the game.
About 6 years ago I picked up a copy of Madden 2001 on a whim and after playing it, I decided that I would give the sport a try and start watching it. I decided to follow the team who I had been playing as on the game, the Rams. Being the season they made the Superbowl, they were the best team on the game (little did I know how different things would be when I started watching ) and because I liked the uniforms, the fact that they had players like Warner and Faulk (unfortunately Warner had left and Faulk was coming to the end of his career at the time) and the whole 'Greatest Show On Turf' idea, they became my team.
I've been hooked since I started watching despite having to watch such a bad team over the last 3 years and not seeing the Rams have a winning season.

Pretty much the same story for me except it was in 99-2000 when i got into the NFL. The Rams were irresistible to watch so I chose to follow them. Had 3 years of success before the mediocrity of near .500 seasons into the current mess that we are in.
He's actually wrong or wrong in his interpretation. There is no such thing as an incidental facemask anymore, that was removed. Therefore a brief touching of the facemask such as a stiff arm or a brief touching in the course of a tackle do not call for a flag. To get flagged you need to pull or twist the facemask. There is little doubt, since his hand remained in constant contact from the tackle to the ground, that Adams PULLED Rodgers down by the facemask and thus should have been called.
Also, he doesn't clarify what should have been called. He simply says that they would be unlikely to overturn the call on replay.

As vice president of officiating in the NFL i get the feeling that his interpretation is going to be correct when push to comes to shove. Interesting to see Rodgers has said that they lost because of his mistakes and not the refereeing. Fair play to him for not hiding.
The wording of the article seems that an accidental face mask, the one that used to get 5 yards i think, should not be punished at all rather than all getting 15 yards. NFL.com quote here,
Quote:The NFL issued an explanation of the rule, noting that "twisting, turning or pulling" the facemask is a 15-yard penalty, but the penalty for an "incidental" grab of the facemask was eliminated before the 2008 season.

Or trying to cover up for his referees ala Stuart Cummins. The rule he says is correct ie it is pulling or twisting, but i think he is wrong to say there is none. Adams is in constant contact with the facemask and pulls Rodgers to the ground by it. As Rodgers attempts to turn to recapture the ball he can't because Adams has his helemt so it twists and that is why it ends up kicked.
Also he doesn't actually say what the correct call would be. He just says they wouldn't have overturned the call, no matter what the call, from the replay booth.

Yep, he refused to talk about the facemask. I'm not trying to make excuses, we lost because of a terrible first quarter and a shocking defence for the whole of the game. There is no telling whether we win the game anyway if they call it or whether we deserved to win the game, but i think it's pretty clear that play should not have ended the game.

Yeah, incidental facemask was removed 2008 i think and now all facemasks are 15 yards ie the ones under the remaining rule.

I fully understand where you're coming from but I think we have to take what Mike whatshisname says. I think you'll be back next year better than ever.
The Autumn Wind is a pirate Blustering in from sea, With a rollocking song, he sweeps along, Swaggering boisterously.
His face is weather beaten. He wears a hooded sash, With a silver hat about his head, And a bristling black mustache.
He growls as he storms the country, A villain big and bold. And the trees all shake and quiver and quake, As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn Wind is a raider, Pillaging just for fun. He'll knock you 'round and upside down, And laugh when he's conquered and won.
Aaron Rodgers has a very bright future in the NFL and I think the Green Bay Packers will be safe in his hands. They're a young team and will get better. I would say they'll be there or thereabouts in 2 or 3 years.
