The thing was I went yesterday afternoon and have watched it a couple of times since and there was no really bad shouting out or booing when he was throwing as he alleges (until he snapped but even in the last leg it is not as bad or abusive as it could have been....perhaps the afternoon factor helped and the booze had not taken hold as badly as it might have in the night). I would also say he pushed it too far in that leg as he twice started goading the crowd (not picked up on TV) whilst Waites was throwing which was totally out of order. There was the crowd noise you do get at the PDC but that was more down to people talking and relitive disinterest in the match as it was a poor game which most of the crowd had no real passion for. Someone did shout something as he threw the darts in the leg he won and had a paddy but his response was totally OTT and turned most of the crowd who were not that bothered who won into Hankey haters.
He did have a fair bit of support there and you can hear cheering when he won that leg but he ruined the good will he had there in one fell swoop.
The noise was nothing compared to say Terry Jenkins v Dennis Ovens in the afternoon and even more so Anastasia v Van Der Voort in the night but even then I do not think they were too hard on the Dutchman (although I saw that game on TV so in the hall it may have seemed different). Hankey has made a rod for his own back as Nicholson did last year as now he is seen as fair game whereas someone like Tony O'Shea or Darryl Fitton get a positive response as they know the score and play to the crowd and win them over (as most probably do know more about the PDC players than the BDO ones).
