| Here goes. Nothing better to do so I'll rate our draft!
Round 1 (9th)- B.J Raji- NT- Boston College
Great pick up. Can learn behind Pickett at NT, rotate at DE for some downs. Play in 4-3 packages. He's the complete package at NT. The only real pick we could make.
Grade: A-
Round 1 (26th)- Clay Matthews- OLB- USC
Thompson loves this guy and although I'm suprised we moved up I trust him. He really wanted Nelson last year and although maybe high he got him also. Clay was mocked to go as high as 11th to the Bills so to get him at 26 is a steal. I was concerned about giving up a 2nd and two 3rds but it panned out OK.
Grade: A
Round 4 (109th)- T.J Lang- OT/G- Eastern Michigan
Could have gone much higher, as high as the bottom of round two. Great depth and can play virtually every Offensive Line position. Typical Ted Thompson pick. For value alone it gets a A.
Grade: A
Round 5 (145th)- Quinn Johnson- FB- LSU
I'm not sure on this pick. He is a huge guy and I suppose for that reason he fits the up the middle run game that we are trying to employ. Kuhn and Hall, who we already have, are more than capable players at FB. Much better players available.
Grade: D
Round 5 (162nd)- Jamon Meredith- OT- South Carolina
Absolutely sensational selection. I would have settled for him in round 2/3 if we had a pick. This makes up for trading away one more pick than I would have liked for Clay. Phenomanal depth.
Grade: A+
Round 6 (182nd)- Jarius Wynn- DE- Georgia
Pretty decent prospect and definately good depth for the new system. Greater value was available though. Time will tell if it was a great pick and he develops to be a starting DE.
Grade: C
Round 6 (187th)- Brandon Underwood- CB- Cincinnati
Mike Mickens should have been the CB to pick at this point if we want an out and out corner. This pick makes sense because he can convert to Safety and Collins is alledgedly going to hold out. After that it is good depth at both position.
Grade: B
Round 7 (218th)- Brad Jones- LB- Colorado
Again, good value pick and depth for our new 3-4. Developmental player and could see some game time. Definate Thompson special teams player. Nothing else left to get at this point
Grade: A
Great draft in all. We filled every hole we needed to and added some key depth players.

| Chargers take Larry English with the first. Bye bye Mr Merriman (that's the big fear anyway). All in all I'm not to disappointed with the draft. Added some big nasty guys that we need. I am intirgued with the Canadian prospect NT we took in the 5th, Vaughn Martin.

Free Agent now.
He most likely goes back to Seattle anyway.

| With the family connection now in Houston, I thought he'd have gone to the Texans at 15 but they went for his buddy, Cushing.
FWIW I like what I've read on Matthews and think he'll do well in Green Bay.

Hopefully he will.
I really like the Larry English pick for you guys. He's a great talent. Slight reach considering most thought he could fall to low first round or to us in the second.
Maybe no more Shawne "Nandrolone" Merriman in San Diego?

The more I think about it, the more I like the pick. We were cr*p against the pass last year, really sh*t. The main reason, with hindsight, was the lack of pressure on the QB. Rivera changed it up a bit after he came in, but it was still below average. Yes, Merriman was out and he's back next year, but if he goes down again we'd be screwed. Shaun Phillips was seemingly immune from critisism last year, even though he was shown up for playing on Merrimans reputation a little bit, I do still rate him highly though. Alot of people balmed the secondary, but Jammer and Cromartie are talented, and Weddle is a good safety. Clinton Hart is gash, but that doesn't make the whole unit the 31st against the pass in the league. It was the pressure, or lack of it. Hopefully English will help out with that. If we get him and Merriman tearing it up, with Phillips back up to a decent level of play, our defence will be back.
In 2 years, Merriman will not be a Charger. They want to tie up Rivers and Gates first, plus Merriman will want Haynesworth money. If they could get away with the kind of contract Harrison is on we'd have a chance, but he'll want more.
If anyone wonders why the Chargers have been so dominant in the AFC West, look at the other teams drafts. Christ almighty, Xanders and McDaniels have played a blinder in Denver. Giving up next years first for Alphonso Smith? Moreno has talent, granted, but they have another 46 running backs on their roster [size=50(that's an exagerration)[/size. The Chiefs take Jackson at 3? We discussed him earlier being a good fit on paper at either SD or Green Bay, but no 3? With Curry on the board? Crikey. I thought Pioli was a genius? And Al Davis is Al Davis. Long live the king and all that.
I really like Green Bays draft. Raji is a beast. Matthews is a good player with great potential & Lang is a player I had my eye on for the Chargers!!

| The team I think had one of the best drafts is actually the Bengals, Andre Smith can be a very good tackle, Rey Mauluaga is a steal in the 2nd round and if he lives up to his potential Michael Johnson could be a steal in the 3rd round, especially as home experts had good ol' Al Davis taking him in the 1st round.

I'd agree with everything you said about the Chargers last year.
I despise the big baby Rivers and Nandrolone Merriman but they are both great players.
Quote ="RedTez"If anyone wonders why the Chargers have been so dominant in the AFC West, look at the other teams drafts. Christ almighty, Xanders and McDaniels have played a blinder in Denver. Giving up next years first for Alphonso Smith? '"
I like your draft. English in round one and Byrd in round seven in particular are excellent picks.
That was a horrible trade by Denver.
They gave up there own first round pick which could potentially be in the top five for a corner who isn't even that good.
Ayers doesn't fit the system they have.
Quote ="RedTez"Moreno has talent, granted, but they have another 46 running backs on their roster [size=50(that's an exagerration)[/size. '"
Exactly. Moreno is a great back and I really rate him highly but he was a bad choice at 12. They could have got him at 18 or later. They don't need an elite back to run the system especially when they have major needs on defence.
Quote ="RedTez"The Chiefs take Jackson at 3? We discussed him earlier being a good fit on paper at either SD or Green Bay, but no 3? With Curry on the board? Crikey. I thought Pioli was a genius? And Al Davis is Al Davis. Long live the king and all that.'"
Yeah. 3 is ridiculously high for somebody who might not have that great of an impact. Raji would have even been better for the 3-4 than Jackson. Curry should have been the pick though with Jackson falling to us, Denver or you guys.
The more people spread their wings, the more it seems like Belicheat is the only genius in New England.
Mangini
Pioli
McDaniels

Hopefully we've gone most of the way to sorting out our 3-4. Nice NT and OLB to start, along with CB depth.
We've sorted our line out also. Lang can play RT or any guard spot and Meredith, my favourite selection, can possibly be our starting LT this season or next.

Pioli, maybe so.
McDaniels is worse than the Mangenius.
McDaniels has single handedly managed to run one of the best franchise QB's out of town in exchange for Kyle Orton.
He wanted to get rid of Cutler for Cassell who is a far far inferior talent.
He then passed on a potentail franchise QB in Josh Freeman.
He esentially traded Cutler for Robert Ayers, who doesn't fit the scheme they run, and the ability to get Alphonso Smith.
Alphonso Smith for a first is horrible. He isn't a first round graded player, and definately not for the top 10 pick that they are giving away.
He has alientated the fan base, most of whom really dislike him.
Traded up to the end of round 2 for a blocking tight end.
Failed to fix the most important part of their team, defensive line and linebackers and drafted numerous CB's.
All before even playing a game.

| Apparantly Levi Jones is on the trading block, i'd like to see Al make a move for him, we didn't take any linemen in the draft, and he could make a decent left side with Gallery who might have found his niche at left guard.
Chris Perry has been cut as well.

On the right contracti'd have him here in Green Bay backing up Grant, assuming he is at a decent level of play.
I'd imagine he'll end up at Detroit or the Bengals.
