He makes a fair bit of contact with the ball, his leg is fully extended as he goes in, he takes the ball with his left and he makes contact with Ben Arfa with his right, it's impossible not to make some contact as it is with virtually every tackle.

As it was contact with the ball was absolutely minimal. If he hadn't taken out Ben Arfa with the slide it would have been a useless tackle.

As above.

Had that been any other player I think you're opinion would be different, it's a case of reputation going before him. I haven't seen anyone else call it reckless or claim it should have been a red card other than here. Three match reports, the live commentary, MOTD2 - none claim it to be the reckless challenge you do. Chris Hughton said 'It was a challenge that didn't need to be made' not even he shares your opinion as far as we know.

I thought Newcastle were excellent yesterday, while City were very fortunate (on more than one occasion).

Interesting tactics by Chris Hughton - pushing up the defenders to crowd out our midfield. Very risky. We failed to take advantage of this, as we were not at the races at all.

As for Silva's passing in the second-half - sublime. If only we had an out and out forward.

Anyone heard the rumours about Torres crying as he walked down the tunnel yesterday after coming off? He gives the impression that he is a bit 'fragile' at the moment.

At risk of starting reasonable and sensible debate. Who do people think is to blame for the debacle at Anfield. Just over 18 months ago Liverpool football club were top of the premier league and in the last sixteen of the champions league. They finished the 2008-2009 season winning ten of eleven games so the basis for a good team were there. They then sold Alonso, Arbeloa, Hyppia and have since seen the likes of Benayoun, Mascherano leave. It's clear the ownership issue has caused a bit of unrest at the club and the fans are rightly making their voices heard. It seems Benitez knew what was coming and the right thing in jumping ship, but how much blame can you place at the feet of Benitez? Of course his hands were tied with certain aspects of management in terms of money available his past few years but he had spent a hell of alot of money the previous years with little to show for it. is is fair to blame Roy Hodgson? Is a club of Liverpool's stature and size too big for him? Fernando Torres is clearly not himself at the moment also. Is it time to cash in on the darling of the kop to give the side a stronger look around with the funds that he'd surely bring in. My own personal opinion is that when you put it all together then all parties deserve a large part of the blame. As we see a former giant of rugby league reclaim it's place at the top of the mountain it's a good time to think about where Wigan were just four years ago. It goes to show woth the right management and ownership then thngs can turn around in a very short space of time. As much as we hate to see it, the premier league need's a strong Liverpool just as Rugby league needed a strong Wigan.

So let me get this right?

The Shawcross on Ramsey was a good tackle?
The De Jong on Ben Afra was a bad tackle?

The tackle you deemed 'good' was on an Arsenal player.
The tackle you deemed 'bad' was by a Man City player.

Biastastic!!

Get well soon Hatem. I doubt we'll see him in a Newcastle shirt again - broken fib and tib is likely to end his season.

Don't forget Karl Henry as well.

The Premier League needs variety at the top far more than it needs a strong Liverpool. Liverpool spending 5-10 years in mid-table while Tottenham/Citeh/Villa improve and fight it out for the top 4 would be far more valuable to the PL than the same sides qualifying for the CL every year.

Most of the blame for their present position belongs to the owners. Not that I think they've been spectacularly bad owners, I just think they've been average/below average owners while LFC needed/wanted top quality owners.

Well you're getting it wrong already.

I never said it was a good tackle. I just don't feel it was the terrible assault that it's been made out to be. I don't feel that Shawcross did anything wrong and think it was a case of "5Hit happens", sadly.

Quote:The De Jong on Ben Afra was a bad tackle?

Yes, it was a bad tackle.

It was a ball and player challenge that has been outlawed from the game. The contact with the ball was minimal. Ben Arfa was already being covered by another Citeh player and there was no need for such a reckless and dangerous tackle.

It's got **** all to do with the clubs involved. I've said this before, but the tackle by Shawcross on Adebayor (when he was an Arsenal player) should have been a straight red.

I defended Adebayor over his alleged stamping on van Persie against Arsenal.

I'm simply judging the incidents on how I see them.

You go back to where the problem started - Moores/Parry -----------> Yanks

The club is in decline and its spread from the core of the club to the players, about a 1000 of the match going fans saw this coming months and months ago but 98% of fans turned their backs on us and couldn't (didn't want to) see what was happening instead going with the old get behind the team instead line clueless, we now stand in the bottom 3 and facing either Hicks getting the re-finance or this month administration/-9 Points taken away.

Happy times
