Kaymer is 4th in the world now.

Good stuff wont be long until he is in his rightful place as #1

Hes definately playing the best golf at the minute, and with Westwood expected to take a long break again with his calf/leg injury Kaymer will overtake Woods/Mickelson before him IMO

Is that right?

BBC this morning was saying that if Westwood and Woods take time off until November as planned, Westwood will take over as #1.

I don't think Kaymer is far behind mind you.

Not too sure if Im honest because I dont know how that works?!?,You may be right because Kaymer isnt playing until 28th of October but even if Westwood does take it 1st lets face it if Kaymer keeps doing well and possibly even wins another tournament he will overtake them both IMO. If it's anything like tennis and snooker, isn't the ranking score calculated based on results over a set period, e.g. the last two years?

Let's say in November 2008 Woods won a massive tournament which gave him a ton of ranking points. Once the second anniversary of that tournament passes, those points drop off his ranking score. Unless he wins an equally big tournament in the meantime, his score will therefore go down.

Let's say Westwood played in the same tournament and missed the cut. He'd lose no ranking points when that tournament falls off his ranking score, and as a result might end up above Woods once Tiger has lost all the points he won in it.

So it's not so much a case of Westwood doing something to overtake Woods, as Woods score falling as a result of not replacing the points he loses.

Is Kaymer not particularly suited to matchplay golf then as he was absolutely woeful last week in his singles match against, arguably, the worst US player of the week??

He is absolutely magnificent in competition play though.

Just a quick aside but does anyone else think that the standard of golf and the standard of the top players is as good, if not better, than at any time in recent years?
