He was, but only for a couple of years. He played in the World Matchplay in '00 & '01, and got the semi in '01 but got beat by Taylor. Also played in the '01 World Grand Prix but then the rules changed about playing in dual tournaments and he went back to the BDO.

Taylor got a stuffing 8-2 by Lewis last night ... do I detect a Waddell suicide anytime soon?

Apparently Taylor only got beat as he had the flu. Nice to see people giving the world champion some credit.

You should know by now - Taylor never, ever loses because the other person played better.

He's always got his acolytes in the media to roll out some sob story or other to cover for him.

TBF, the very same world champion was leading that chorus. I suspect it did have a bearing at least on how heavily he was beaten.

What is it about us Brits? Taylor brings a different level to darts, then gets pilloried because he is successful.Steve Davis got the same treatment.
Taylor raised the bar, other players are now reaching it,Taylor is getting older,if he packed in tomorrow he would be comfortably off.
Its not his fault if commentators wet their pants over him.
Cut him some slack f.f.s.

Think it's more that he's not reaching it either, not that they are. I still don't think there's anyone playing anywhere near the level he was up until about 4 months ago.

Can you get it through your skull that it doesn't do any sport any good to have the same player winning year in year out?
Yes, Taylor as been the best darts player ever ... by a mile.
He has also been a condescending, self satisfied, little so and so in recent times, who thinks he has a god given right to win, and further to that he's only a little more practice away from reigning supreme again in his own mind, in denial of his advanced years (as you mentioned).
It's his time to eat some dirt ... if he wants to continue ... he will eat some more. That doesn't mean to say that his time is over, it wouldn't surprise me if he finishes the winner in this latest darts tour, for instance.
But his trend will be downwards ... let's move on.
There will never be a darts player like Taylor again ... simply the best and IMHO the last of his type, I hope.

PS
Another Brit thing is to go for underdogs rather than champions. That's why Taylor has fallen foul... he was nearly always the champion. But it was OK with his fans, sheep and those that align themselves with winners.

Ah,so if a sportsman has a talent, he has to sometimes lose on purpose to keep the punters happy?,I get it now.
