There'll be no point in dropping Green as James is 2nd choice and he's no better. The best Keeper we've got (Hart) is only 3rd choice and our 2nd best keeper (Robinson)is probably on a beach somewhere. My changes for the 2nd game would be Carragher if King is not fit and Barry in for Heskey and move Gerrard behind Rooney and finally Cole for Milner, swp was useless today and at least Cole will get some crosses in instead of turning inside all the time .
I thought that the USA dealt with Rooney too easily. Apart from a couple of touches with around 15 minutes to go he was useless. When he did get the ball his touch was off. Compare his performance with Messi's and you see how much we over-hype players here. Apart from Heskey (!) and Gerrard I thought we were poor.

Rooney had very poor service i thought. I also thought Messi was sh!te, he should have scored at least 4, but bombed chance after chance. It also done my head in how the commentators kept saying how Messi meant to balls up. For example, when he put it just wide with a touch, he should have scored with. The commentators said he meant to knock it on to someone coming onto it, he didn't he, meant to score but put it wide. Every mistake he made, when he should have scored, he meant to not score he was trying to something else, when he wasn't. It was only because it was Messi, anyone else and they would have highlighted how sh!te they was.

He just committed a ridiculous error which a schoolboy 'keeper would have been ashamed of.
These things happen, even to the very best 'keepers.
If we had one of the best 'keepers and he did that then you'd accept the screw-up, leave him in the side and move on, knowing he would be giving his all in the rest of the tournament aiming to atone for his error. But Green isn't one of the best 'keepers, he was lucky to be given the place and he let it slip through his hands. Unless England suffer a GK injury Green's involvement in the WC should be over today.

Firstly I think far too many people have underestimated just how good the USA are. They are the only team to beat Spain in the last 40 odd games and gave Brazil a hell of a scare in the Confederations Cup final. They don't have any superstars but are a good team.
Feel sorry for Green, he's made a once in a career mistake in the biggest game of his life. He has to be commended though for they way he dealt with it and came back with a stunning save from Altidore. Had he been done on the near post his England career would have been over.
I thought we did ok, with Glen Johnson outstanding. Heskey did well, superb assist for the goal and linked up play well throughout. If only he could finish.
Lampard had a shocker, constantly giving the ball away and going missing for long periods.

Average at best today.
Midfield was very poor and I think the sooner Barry gets back the better as we were left vulnerable quite a few times and when you have possibly the slowest man in SA at centre back teams are going to cause problems. Thought Heskey did well but the front two lacked any real service for most of the game.
The result isn't as bad as people are making out, USA are a well drilled side and we can only build from here it cant get much worse.
Against Algeria I'd go,
Green Johnson Dawson Terry A Cole Lennon Barry Lampard J Cole Gerrard Rooney

Why people are calling that such a great save is beyond me, no keeper should be beaten there, the save only looked good because he was badly positioned in the first place and had to throw an arm out.

Again I agree. Looked to me like he was out of position and the shot went through him again. Got lucky it hit the post.

IMO it would have been a good save if he dealt with the shot with strength and put it out for a corner. The fact he met it weakly, on his near post, and only managed to put it against the woodwork just means he got lucky by not giving them two goals.
