I went a bit giddy when I saw the Osasuna scoreline with 15 minutes to go. Serves me right for jumping the gun!
The weekend:
Valencia 3-3 Villarreal
Deportivo 1-3 Sevilla
Atletico Madrid 2-3 Athletic Bilbao
Espanyol 2-2 Almeria
Mallorca 0-3 Real Madrid
Numancia 2-0 Getafe
Osasuna 2-3 Barcelona
Racing Santander 1-1 Recreativo Huelva
Real Betis 1-2 Malaga
Sporting Gijon 2-1 Valladolid
So Barcelona refuse to make this title race a bit more interesting with that hard-fought win in Pamplona. Barcelona's lead extends to 12 points with Real Madrid moving into second on goal difference, following their comfortable 3-0 win in the Balearics. Juande Ramos is unbeaten since El Clasico and Arjen Robben is in some nick.
Sevilla's negotiation of a tricky tie in Galicia means Manolo Jiminez can breathe easier, especially with both his main strikers, Fabiano and Kanoute, making a big impact. Valencia sit in fourth as just the slightest gap opens up between them and the UEFA cup spots.
Javier Aguirre is under pressure as Asim has noted, a home defeat is one thing but a home defeat to the Basques, who certainly do not travel well, is quite a result to stomach. Two goals from that man Fernando Llorente who is up to 7 for the season. Villarreal's creditable draw at the Mestalla means they are only just above Depor.
At the bottom, Numancia are the big winners as they pull further away, but Osasuna and Mallorca look increasingly adrift. Two Uche goals got Almeria out of jail at the Montjuic, while a stalemate between Racing and Recre helps neither. Things looking rosy for Sporting, however, as they leapfrog Valladolid.
