He generally played well, faded in the second half as his first touch started to desert him. Considering he's only been back training this week, 70 mins and a goal is good going. I reckon he'll get 20 in the league this year and set up over 10. Fantasy footy must-have, if I played it.

He's leading the line in my fantasy team ;)
Was it a mistake to start him, bearing in mind he's had a busy summer and has only been back in training this week? You can't predict what the table will look like at the end of May based on the opening game of the season. Come the end of the season Liverpool will be there or there abouts. (FOR FOURTH PLACE)

I dunno. Can't say it was a mistake because he scored and earned us a penalty early on. However, with hindsight, you would have loved seeing him coming on against a tired Sunderland side, as we lost our way when Suarez started to tire.

Based on today's game, we're still a couple of signings short of making a proper go at it. We need a centre half and we could do with a better impact player than Dirk Kuyt.

I can't believe people actually take the Scouse serious as potential title contenders. The delusion is almost scary. You would think they had missed out on the league by a few points here and there but they didnt even qualify for Europe FFS. The additions to the squad by "King" Kenny would hardly inspire confidence in most right minded people, Suarez aside, but still you hear many people claiming it may be their year this time. it is staggering, almost like cult. It makes you wonder who will take the brunt of the blame when it inevitably goes breasts up cos there is no Gillett and Hicks and no Roy Hodgson to blame.

Still whatever happens there will always be next year.

I don't think there's too many who do.

Roddy B wrote:That was a true game of two halves. The first half we were rampant, we ran them off the park and created enough chances to win it there and then. Yes, Richardson should have been off, but a decision in the 5th minute shouldn't have stopped us from winning.

The second half, well, I'm bemused. Our midfield suddenly became invisible, our first touch was appalling and our plan was to lump it up to Carroll, give him little support and look lost. If we play like the first half all season, we'll make the top 4. If our plan B is what we done in the second half, we won't improve at all. If I were Dalglish, I'd consider bringing Carroll off when we're chasing games, as he becomes such a point of focus for hoof merchants that we lose all direction and threat. We become predictable and hopeless.

We've much to improve on and much to be happy about. We needed the win to get momentum going today, but we just fell short.

Good summary Rob. That's mainly how I saw it.

There were lots of posistives to take out of todays result though. I thought Enrique had a good game, did everything what was asked of him, passed some great balls and linked up well with Downing. Downing had a decent game and gave some good crosses into the penalty area, he almost scored an early contender for goal of the season with a superb run followed by a thunderous shot which hit the bar. Henderson was quiet on the right. We deifnitley need to remove him from outwide, he looks lost, either play him in the centre of the park or not at all. I'd rather see Maxi on that right hand side at least he gives us something out there. Don't get me wrong, I like Hendo and thinks he's got lots of potential but you're wasting him by putting him on the right.

That's poor, especially when Carrol actually found the net.
