The defenders are coming.
Players we have bought so far this window: Stuart Taylor (GK), RSC (Striker) and Gareth Barry (MID, but can play LB). Where are all these forwards you are talking about?
As Cibaman stated, we have a long way to go until 31 August.
I think Sturridge may turn into a Carlton Cole type player. At a big club, will go out on loan to a few Championship clubs and then end up at somewhere like Portsmouth or Wigan or someone.

City's best young players will find it infinitely more difficult to make the grade because the grade is far higher. There will also be a great deal more competition for them to simply enter the first team.

So you know that the reception given to Sturridge was down to expectation from the supporters, and not just a very good display of support for a young kid making his debut? I'd have thought that most players would respond well to support, but maybe supporters should just ignore debutants instead.

Yes you are right. Why on earth buy any more strikers when you can stick with class stars of the pedigree of Evans, Benjani and Caicedo? It's quite obvious that we were strong enough in that department!
Whoever we played as a lead striker, last year, he was generally hopeless.
The rest of your points may be valid but the transfer window hasn't even opened yet.
As it happens, we are linked with Joleon Lescott and Nedum Onuoha is far better than people give him credit for. I really do think he is good enough for where we want to be. I also believe Kompany is a genuinely quality centre half and far better there than in midfield.
Point taken about Dunne and we certainly do need a strong, go forward midfielder but, as I say, there is plenty of time and plenty of money to still do that.

I would say it was mainly about expectation. Young players are always given good receptions but the roar when he came on was above and beyond the normal, out of hope and no shortage of desperation.
