Edit-Bans from 2024 get points attached to them and the points for each incident stay on a players record for 12 months, so a good few players, including Byrne, are in danger of big bans for any sort of charge in the early months of the season. |

Is there a list anywhere with the current points that players carry over? Good call on Byrne. It would put a question mark over signing anybody who had something like this hanging over their heads for the first month of the season. I wonder if NRL players come with a clean slate? |

NickyKiss wrote:https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/the-super-league-stars-facing-huge-bans-early-in-2025-after-disciplinary-overhaul That lists the players in the most immediate danger of bans. I've read it wrong initially and the points actually drop off after 12 months on a case by case basis, so McIlorum had a Grade E in Feb 2024, that will drop off in Feb 2025 but it's not all the points. Liam Byrne had that charge on Good Friday and the rest of his incidents were after that, so he's actually in danger of a decent ban right through until the end of March, when the points for that Good Friday ban will drop off. Not sure on overseas players but it's laughable if somebody like JWH comes in with a clean slate, when he's probably the most banned player in world rugby league. It appears that players arriving from the NRL are not subject to the same rules. That cannot be right, it suggests a two-tiered approach which I am sure will be challenged. |

Would a logical way to do this not be to estimate any incoming players points based on any charges that player got in the last 12 months in the NRL? I know we police our games differently and we seem to ban a lot more, but at least then there is some fairness to it and not just a blanket clean sheet for any player coming in. Or am i asking too much of the RFL there? |

If they weren't going to apply any points to new signings from the NRL, they should've wiped all players records IMO or they should've given any repeat offenders over here a starting base of 5 points or so. Those players listed in the articles looking at 3+ games for something extremely minimal doesn't feel right, certainly not when somebody like JWH could (and probably will) come up with something far more serious and pick up less games. I like the idea of a points based system but it's starting off on a footing that doesn't feel level. |

So does it work in a way that say if a player accumulated 8 points up to May last year, then come June this year those points will 'drop off' effectively meaning the player is now on zero points. If so then I suspect a player could cop a ban say in May this year if they get a three point penalty, but then in June they will reduce to three points so any further points wont result in an instant ban but just start to accumulate on the ladder again and so on. Is that how it is supposed to work? |

Is that how it is supposed to work? Yeah, I think so. If a player had charges in Feb, May and July 2024 for example, they would drop off, one by one, in Feb, May and July 2025. Looking at Byrne from Good Friday last year, if he has any sort of charge early in the season, he'll cop at least 3 matches. If he stays clean until 31st March 2025, he will have 12 points drop off his record and go down to just 3 points and then have some leeway. His 3 points will drop off around the 11th May 2025, which was the date of his second and last charge in 2024. Harry Smith is actually the biggest concern looking at the disciplinary site. He only has 1 point against him for that Yellow card on the opening night at Cas but he has 12 points for that incident at Leeds on August 10th, so he is any sort of charge away from at least a 2 match ban from the first game, right through until August 10th 2025. I don't mind it in a way with Smith. He needs to improve that silliness that crept in last year and it should concentrate his mind a little. |
