I agree to an extent with Jason, they look an ageing team, and Leigh last night (even without their main cog, Asiata) opened them up numerous times and should have won, even with the lack of ball/territory.
One thing I will say though is, Saints' defence when they are in that mood is fearsome, particularly when sides are coming out of their own half. You can't go one out against them that's for sure!
No doubt this is the final year of this side. We are ageing and busted and there’s a big rebuild ahead. We’ve got some outstanding youngsters coming through but they won’t be ready in the next 1-2 years.
Last night was played at a high intensity in very muggy conditions. We were clunky in attack and Welsby was very quiet. To see him described as average on here is laughable though based on last night. Our defence was outstanding in the main and Leigh threw a lot at us. We lost Delaney to a HIA early 2nd half and didn’t give Royle a minute (not sure why) so the forwards did it tough 2nd half.
If Sironen, Hopoate and Hurrell can come back and stay fit we may just have 2-3 big games left in us.
As good as Wigan have looked recently they were poor against Hull in the rain. Grand Finals normally are played in the wet and we have the game plan to play in a big tight game when the ball isn’t thrown around.
Wigan are the form team at the moment no question and would probably start favourites against us but we have a lot of big game players. It’s just if we can squeeze some final energy out of them.
