A red card is an extreme punishment and I think it often exceeds the crime.
Greenwood retaliated with a forearm push on Sunday after being clattered in the chops by a Saints forward. No video ref and he was wrongly given his marching orders by the referee after 28 minutes.
To play 52 minutes with only 12 men is a killer! The game is spoilt.
As a spectator I don’t want to pay good money to watch a mockery of a game.
It was the same with the Hull K R v Wigan cup semi. Was it really a red card? Did it really warrant it?
Nobody should be given a red card when the force of the tackle bounces off the ball into the face of the ball carrier. It should be a yellow.
I’m not saying a red card should never be given but only when a player is being over aggressive or vicious. We can all think of players in the past who have crossed the line.
When the judiciary meet to dish out suspensions they can make them severe so make any thugs think twice.
Have 10 match suspensions if necessary then we spectators can regularly watch 13 v 13 ( apart from the odd yellow card) and get our moneys worth.

The problem is the referee saw it as an elbow to the head, clearly indicated by his signal and has ben said you can hear him say the same on commentary. If one of your players is elbowed to the head, would you want the transgressor to remain on the pitch? According to the MRP the referee got it wrong in the eyes of the MRP, much as he did sinbinning a player for a classic cannonball tackle.

I agree, and I think most will that a lot of this is OTT. It is a reaction to the lawsuit and the powers that be becoming overly cautious.

Admittedly I’ve only seen it on a small phone on a tweet but so reserve the right to retract this with a better view, the Lees tackle appeared to be very similar to the Shorrocks one, Knowles also appeared to punch Greenwood.

Under the current rules I’m very surprised all 3 didn’t get red cards and even more surprised Knowles didn’t cop a ban.

When you see footage from a different angle Knowles grabs Greenwoods arm, there’s no punch whatsoever.

Now that would be a case for a red card! Remember it like yesterday. Pavilion end about 10m short of the halfway line. Revenge for Morley hitting McCormick I think.

Knowing the disciplinary he'd get a caution.

It’s on a par with Barrie McDermotts elbow on Paul Sironen
