However, one of the key pieces of information to be clarified was around the mechanics of promotion and relegation. We now know that clubs will all be graded on unspecified criteria, with clubs to eventually be graded from A through to C. But what was unclear was what happens if a Grade B club finished bottom of Super League and a Grade B club won the Championship. Crucially, that has now been confirmed and, if that were to happen, the team finishing bottom of Super League will be relegated, and the team who wins the Championship will be promoted. In essence, promotion and relegation from Super League will still exist in its current guise on the basis the club coming up is the same grade as the clubs going down. Grade A clubs will be exempt from Super League relegation.

Have to agree. I like it, however, im not sure how some clubs can be expected to improve their facilities with their limited income. It's good news for the likes of York and Newcastle who are actively trying to be competitive and hopefully it speeds up better facilities at Fev. I think an expanded league with all the sides with the desired criteria would be better imo. Then everybody else underneath is playing catch up and when the side in the championship has improved enough and finishes top, they know for sure that they are in if you get what i'm trying to say. This will also banish the loop fixtures that make playing Saints and Warrington more of a chore than a game to look forward to.

What your suggestion will just result in the same continuing to happen

How does expanding the league and keeping promotion and relegation really change anything?

Well, say York and Newcastle already meet the criteria along with Widnes, (not sure any other championship sides would) then open up the league and let them in (or 2 of them) so the other sides in the Championship who want some of Super League HAVE to get their houses in order to fast track their claims. I want an expanded league anyway so my views on that will be biased towards that. I really do want to see an end to the fact we could potentially play Saints about 5 times in a season including the CC. Surely fans don't want to see that. I don't anyway. It's far more exciting to know it's months away and the build up to it is far better.

Wonder what Castleford fans make of it.

I like the changes, it keeps everyone honest and makes sure teams don’t rest and take things for granted. There still could be promotion and relegation, even if it’s not in a guaranteed, traditional manner. If a team finishes top of the Championship and is graded as a B and a team finishes bottom of Superleague and is also graded as a B, the Championship club will take their place. That guards against teams at the bottom thinking games just don’t matter. If we look at the last two years, I guess all of Toulouse, Leigh, Toulouse again and London would be graded as a B, so trans would still come and go, as they have done.
